Bathing Beauties at Oriel Davies, Newtown Powysm, as part of ‘Art, Design and Architecture’ from July 7th– September 5th.
The gallery will feature Bathing Beauties’ touring exhibition, showing over one 100 models designed by artists and architects tasked with unlocking the potential of the humble beach hut to transform our coastlines.
Exhibits will include my 1:15 scale model ‘Lazy Susan’ winner of the ‘Best Model’ prize for outstanding craftsmanship in The National Centre for Craft & Design’s prestigious Bathing Beauties International Design Competition.
The competition sort to re-imagine the iconic British beach hut form for the first time in 300 years. 240 artists, architects and designers submitted their proposals and the shortlisted 100+ models which form the resultant exhibition, came from 15 countries around the world and explore diverse themes and pop culture influences.
‘Lazy Susan’ was made in conjunction with my close friend Kevin Hobson. Kevin is a fellow designer/maker as well as a silversmith jeweler with a variety of additional craft skills.
Partly inspired by the American Airstream caravan, the beautifully crafted ‘Lazy Susan’ is designed to rotate to follow the sun.
